LIGHTS – A SYMBOL OF CHRISTMAS

“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’”  John 8:12

Lights are an important symbol of the meaning of Christmas. Jesus entered this world to be the Light in the darkness, and God created the original Light show.  After all, the angels appeared to the shepherds, and whenever angels appear they often have this dazzling array around them.  And then there was the star over Bethlehem that the wise men were drawn to.  We’re always drawn to the Light.

So the next time you go driving around looking at the lights, remember the coming of Jesus, “the Light of the world.”

THE ANSWER TO WHY WE ARE HERE

…(the Lord) has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity.” – 2 Timothy 1:9

Do you hear the clock ticking? Time keeps moving on. It never stops for anyone–no matter how important you are. We just can’t find enough of that stuff. The late Jim Croce sang about bottling time, and if it could be put in a bottle, I imagine time would be a best selling product! But one thing’s for sure — God wants us to be good stewards of our time, and the starting point is knowing why each of us is here.

Consider these steps in finding the answer to why we are here:

  • Ask God to help you develop a life-purpose statement. It will take some time, but it’s the best time you’ll ever invest. Know why you’re here.
  • Decide each day what’s most important for you to do that day, and do it. By having a clear purpose, and doing the most important thing each day, God can revolutionize your life and help you make the most of your time.

Whatever you do, please don’t give up. There is no question that God has a purpose for your life, but sometimes God speaks in a still, small voice.  Listen.  You’ll be glad you did.
