ANGER: CONFRONT IT. CONFESS IT

ANGER: CONFRONT IT. CONFESS IT“In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.”   Ephesians 4:26

Don’t let the sun set on your anger because the devil will get a foothold in your life (My Paraphrase of Ephesians 4:26). Differences exist in any kind of relationship – think about conflicts you’ve had with friends, family and even colleagues.

We will all be tempted to lose our cool and become angry, but we need to deal with the situation then and there. Don’t let it simmer and prolong, making the problem grow even greater. Don’t let the sun set on your anger – confront it and confess it.

How do we do that?

Don’t Lose Your Cool: Losing our temper is not only sinful, it’s destructive for both ourselves and very often for others. Try to remain calm BEFORE losing your temper.

Act vs. React: Choose how you ACT rather than allowing anger to dictate your REACTION. So, act in a positive way. Get a hold of yourself; it’s that important.

Confront when Necessary: Confrontation is often necessary to clear the air and address issues and even misunderstandings that lead to disagreement and frustrations. But be sure to check your attitude when you confront another. Be firm, but not mean, when someone steps out of line.

Confess It: If you’re the one in the wrong,  confess your sin first to God and then to that person. Ask for forgiveness and move on. Don’t make excuses for your behavior – that will only further irritate the person you’ve hurt. Keep it simple: “I was wrong. I’m sorry.” This doesn’t mean that every person we wrong will accept our apology, but God’s Word is clear: “If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.” (Romans 12: 18)

How do you respond when angry? Don’t let the sun go down on your anger. Confront it. Confess it. And remember that Jesus got angry, but never sinned. Jesus is the perfect example of how to deal with anger in the best possible way.

Fall Asleep Faster

  • No Screens Before Bed: The bright light from your phone or tablet shining right in your eyes trick your brain into working in daylight mode. Shut off the screen well before you go to bed for a better nights sleep.
  • Nap Between 1PM and 3PM (not on workdays-LOL!): For most people, your circadian rhythm creates a daily, mid-afternoon drowsiness. That’s the perfect time to take a quick nap if you can. Set your phone’s alarm and doze for 20 minutes and wake up ready to go.
  • Feet Regulate Temperature: Your feet and hands affect your whole body’s temperature as blood flows through them. Put on socks to warm up or stick bare feet out from under the covers to cool down when you can’t or don’t want to adjust the room temperature.
  • Sleep Rituals Can Help: Try to do the same things each evening before bed, including having a regular time to turn off the lights and get some shut-eye. Your body will key into the pattern and naturally fall asleep faster.
  • Control The Noise: White noise from a fan or white noise generator works wonders eliminating those little distracting sounds that can keep you wide awake in an otherwise perfectly quiet room. Ear plugs work much the same way.
  • Breathing Exercises, Meditation and Praying: Practice a simple meditation routine or breathing exercises as you lie down, clearing your mind and calming your body for bed. Expressing prayers of gratitude for the day works wonders as part of your sleep ritual.

THERE IS ONLY ONE UNFORGIVABLE SIN

“Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven.” – Matthew 12:31

The thought of an unpardonable, or unforgivable sin has brought grief to many people throughout history. Some people believe that committing suicide is unforgivable. Others talk about “seven deadly sins” that can doom you to an unpardonable state.

Christians have long debated what the unpardonable sin is. Some Christians even live in fear, terrified that they may have committed the unpardonable sin and that God has already separated Himself from them; but perhaps that guilt and fear is unnecessary.

Now let’s stop here a moment. If you worry that you have committed the unpardonable sin, then that’s one of the clearest signs you have not. The very fact that you are bothered by your sinfulness shows that the Holy Spirit has not abandoned you!

The only unpardonable sin is total rejection of Jesus Christ, also referred to as blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. The one thing that God cannot forgive is when we reject His Son all our lives. God will not forgive us for rejecting the incredible thing His Son did for us, paying the penalty so that our sins could be washed away when we have repentant faith in Him.

Except for the sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, whatever evil you have done and however bad you think you are, God offers His forgiveness in Christ. Why not accept that forgiveness today?
