Tips for internet and email security

Here’s a sneaky trick used by many hackers: they purchase and set up a fraudulent website that is a close misspelling of a legitimate one. Example: http://www.faceboook.com (extra “o”) or http://www.dropbox.net (instead of .com). All you have to do is accidentally fat-finger ONE letter in the URL and up pops a very legitimate-looking fake copy of the site you were trying to get to – and the login and links are full of keylogger malware and virus landmines waiting for you to click on them. This is particularly important for any social networks you belong to.

Two Tips: One, bookmark key sites you frequently visit. But even better, have us install a web gateway security product that BLOCKS sites that are suspicious and fraudulent. That way, even if you click on a link to a phishing site, get directed to an infected site or accidentally type in the wrong URL, the site will be blocked, protecting you and your employees.

Start the day

START THE DAY RIGHT “In the morning, Oh Lord, you hear my voice.  In the morning, I lay my requests before you and I wait in expectation.” Psalm 5:3

Is prayer a vital part of your life? Many Christians would say – of course! However, if someone looked at your life, at your priorities and how you spend your time – would that statement still appear true? If we’re honest with ourselves, the topic of prayer can be very convicting.

So are you praying? Is prayer a key part of your life? A priority? Think about this: When you get up in the morning, is your first thought about God or checking your phone?

The Psalmist wrote about starting each day with God. Do you have that same priority? In today’s hectic and busy world it’s so easy to rush into our day without giving much thought to God or to prayer, but starting the day with God gets our day started right. Prayer recalibrates our hearts for life’s ups and downs.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer put it this way: “The prayer of the morning will determine the day.” So are you praying? Perhaps it’s time you started putting God into your morning routine. I guarantee that He has something more important to say than your phone, social media or even that important email. Take a moment to start your day right by starting it with God.

FAITH REFINED IN THE FIRE

FAITH REFINED IN THE FIRE“These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.” 1 Peter 1:7

Ever found yourself in a season of life where you just feel a little beat up? Have you ever cried out, “Lord, will it ever end?”  Well, in case you haven’t noticed, it doesn’t. But the good news is that with each faith-testing experience, our ability to deal with these trials and tribulations becomes better and our faith grows stronger.

In this scripture, God compares our faith to a most precious and beautiful metal – gold. But when mined, this precious metal doesn’t look very precious. It’s dirty and dark. So, how does gold the brilliant, beautiful, and expensive metal we’ve come to expect?

A refiner takes the gold and slowly melts it, carefully raising the temperature – but never to the point of boiling. As it melts, the impurities rise to the surface and are removed, leaving behind a beautiful pot of gold. Here’s the amazing part: the refiner knows the gold is ready only when he can look into the melting pot and see his reflection. In other words, the only way gold will become more precious is when it’s placed in the fire.

It’s the same in our lives – often, the impurities of our lives must be exposed to the fire so that the Lord can scoop up the filth that us revealed under “fire.” And just like the refiner, God will never allow us to boil. Finally, when it’s all said and done, God can look upon us and see the beauty of His reflection in our lives.

Let’s not despise the trials we’re facing today – on the contrary – let’s embrace them. The Lord is using these things to prepare us to do great things for Him. Instead of anger or bitterness when a tough season hits, ask the Lord how you can grow in character and faith.  And watch how the Lord blesses you through the fire.
